You don’t need any experience only general walking fitness.
On this one day course you will learn how to navigate in lowland areas using footpaths, bridleways and tracks. Starting with the very basics of navigation using a map and how to read them well build the basic skills of navigation, like orientating the map and relating map features to the ground and vice versa. Using the map we'll follow well defined line features, measuring distance and use what we can see to pin point our position before moving onto using a compass to accurately determine direction and confirm your direction of travel. Putting all these skills together you will be able to plan and follow your own routes using a map and compass safely and confidently.
Tea and cakes will be provided at the end of the course.
